PILLAR Performance has added Australian triathlete, Sam Appleton to its team of Official Athletes.

Appleton – currently based out of Boulder, Colorado – will work with Australia’s leading sports micronutrition brand across the 2022 season.

Originally hailing from the Blue Mountains in Sydney’s West, Appleton has been a mainstay of the professional circuit for the past six years – amassing more than 15 victories at 70.3 distance.

His run of success across several seasons – including five top 10 finishes at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships – has seen Appleton establish himself as Australia’s leading male competitor over middle distance.

Appleton was also selected on Team International in the 2021 Collins Cup where he competed alongside the world’s best triathletes – finishing 5th overall.

PILLAR Founder, Damien Fitzpatrick was pleased to announce Appleton as an official part of the PILLAR Team.

“Sam’s an incredibly impressive athlete and dedicated. It’s a privilege to have him on board the PILLAR team and support his career,” Fitzpatrick said.

“From an Australian perspective, he’s been leading the way for a long time over that 70.3 distance but further to that, he’s the sort of person that reflects the values of our brand perfectly.

“Watching him go toe-to-toe with Jan Frodeno in the Collins Cup before an unfortunate crash showed he isn’t afraid to put his neck out there. I can relate my experiences with PILLAR to that mentally.”

“We’re a proud Australian brand, so it’s really important for us to support the high performance programs of Australian athletes across the world – it’s exciting to be working with Sam.”

Appleton said he was looking forward to working alongside a growing Australian brand.

“I was blown away by PILLAR’s commitment to producing products that support elite athletes of all kinds,” Appleton said.

“To find micronutrition of this quality is a challenge when you’re a tested athlete and need to ensure any supplements you’re taking are batch tested.

“As an endurance athlete, I’ve got some pretty unique requirements when it comes to micronutrition and I know PILLAR is going to support those throughout the upcoming season.

“Damien, Pip [Taylor – Performance Dietitian] and the team’s overall commitment to supporting high-performance outcomes is something that really stood out to me – it’s exciting to be working with a new, Australian brand in this space.”
